Chamber support for new radio system to the make town safer

George Nightingale, chairman of the Licensed Victuallers Association, of which every licensed premises is a member, has been working on securing 35 radios, courtesy of Exeter City Council, to allow businesses right across the town to communicate.

Exmouth Chamber of Commerce has made a £500 donation towards the cost of the project.

A licence has been applied for from Ofcom, and the new radios are due to be installed this month.

Mr Nightingale said: “This is a big moment for the safety and security of visitors to Exmouth town, both in the daytime and evening.

“All licensed premises are working together really well and will be trained in the use of the radios due to be installed next month.

“We want to send a message out to anyone who thinks that it is dangerous in Exmouth, and send a message out to anyone looking to cause trouble.

“We are coordinated better than ever and strive to lift the perception of the town now that there is so much on offer.”George
